Diesel generator sets are a type of AC power supply equipment for self-contained power stations. They are independent power generation devices powered by internal combustion engines, which drive synchronous AC generators to generate electricity.
Modern diesel generator sets consist of components such as diesel engines, three-phase AC brushless synchronous generators, control boxes (screens), cooling water tanks, couplings, fuel tanks, mufflers, and common bases. The steel structure is a rigid whole. The axial positioning of the flywheel housing and the front cover of the generator is directly connected by a shoulder, forming a single unit. An elastic cylindrical coupling directly drives the rotation of the generator by the flywheel, and the connection is fixed by screws, ensuring that the concentricity of the diesel engine’s crankshaft and the generator rotor is within the specified range.
Diesel generator sets are composed of an internal combustion engine and a synchronous generator. The rated power of the internal combustion engine is limited by the mechanical load and thermal load of the components, and is called the rated power. The rated power of the AC synchronous generator refers to the output rated power when operating at the rated speed for a long time and continuous operation. The matching ratio is usually the rated output power of the diesel engine divided by the rated output power of the AC synchronous generator.
Diesel generator sets are non-continuous operation power generation equipment. If they operate continuously for more than 12 hours, their output power will be approximately 90% lower than the rated power.
Although the power of diesel generator sets is low, due to their small size, flexibility, lightness, and complete matching, they are convenient for operation and maintenance, and are widely used in mines, railways, construction sites, road traffic maintenance, as well as factories, enterprises, hospitals, etc., as backup power or temporary power sources. Recently, new fully automatic emergency power stations without human operation have further expanded the application range of these generator sets.
2. Classification and Specifications
Diesel generator sets are classified by the output power of the generator. The energy of the generator sets ranges from 10kW to 750kW. Each specification is divided into several structures such as protective type (with over-speed, high water temperature, and low oil pressure protection devices), emergency type, and mobile power station type. The mobile power station type is further divided into high-speed off-road type that can match the speed of a car and ordinary mobile type with low speed.
3. Purchase Considerations
The export inspection of diesel generator sets is conducted based on the technical and economic indicators specified in the contract or technical agreement. When users choose and sign the contract, they should pay attention to the following points:
(1) If the environmental conditions of the use environment differ from the environmental condition values specified for the diesel generator set, the temperature, humidity, and altitude values should be specified when signing the contract to provide suitable models and matching equipment;
(2) Explain the cooling method used during operation, especially for large-capacity units, more attention should be paid;
(3) When ordering, in addition to specifying the model of the generator set, the type of the model to be selected should also be specified;
(4) The voltage adjustment rate of the diesel generator set has different values such as 1%, 2%, and 2.5% of the rated voltage. The type to be selected should also be specified;
(5) During normal supply, a certain amount of spare parts will be provided. If additional requirements exist, they should also be specified.
4. Inspection Items and Methods
Diesel generator sets are complete sets of products, including diesel engines, generators, control components, protection devices, etc. The overall inspection of the exported products includes the following contents:
(1) Review of the technical and inspection materials of the product;
(2) Specifications, models, main structural dimensions of the product;
(3) Overall appearance quality of the product; (4) Unit performance: The main aspects include technical parameter indicators, the adaptability of the unit operation, the reliability and sensitivity of various automatic protection devices;
(5) Other items stipulated in the contract or technical agreement
