Faults Occurring During Operation of Diesel Generator Sets and Their Troubleshooting

(1) The following faults occur during the operation of the diesel generator:

7.13

The start-stop switch trips, the unit shuts down and the instrument panel triggers an alarm. If no tripping occurs, press the Emergency Stop button immediately for an emergency shutdown.

Fault Causes:

Overspeed

High cooling water temperature

Failure to start

Low lube oil pressure

(2) Troubleshooting Procedures

Check the fault indicator lights on the local instrument panel to identify the root cause of the fault.

Locate the fault cause and notify maintenance personnel for repair. After the fault is rectified and the alarm on the instrument panel resets, press the Trip Reset Button and Master Reset Button, then restart the unit.

(3) The local instrument panel will activate an alarm when the diesel generator encounters the following faults:

Fault Causes:

Overcurrent, earth fault

Shutdown due to low lube oil pressure, low oil pressure alarm

Shutdown due to high cooling water temperature, high water temperature alarm

Start failure

Reverse power tripping, reverse power shutdown

Common alarm, common pre-alarm

Circuit breaker closing / opening status

Overspeed shutdown

Low fuel level

(4) Troubleshooting Procedures

Carry out troubleshooting according to the fault information indicated by the fault indicator lights.

Reset the fault signal after the fault is eliminated.

(5) Failure of Diesel Generator to Start

Fault Causes:

Blocked air intake passage

Insufficient fuel supply or poor fuel quality

Malfunction of fuel supply and injection systems

(6) Troubleshooting Procedures

Observe exhaust smoke color and volume to analyze fuel combustion condition.

Check the fuel tank level.

Inspect and drain water from the fuel system.

Check whether foreign objects block the air inlet.

Notify maintenance staff and report to the shift supervisor if the unit still fails to start after the above checks.

(7) Insufficient Unit Output Power

Fault Causes:

Insufficient lube oil volume, low oil pressure, excessive oil viscosity, or clogged lubrication system

Inadequate fuel supply, such as clogged fuel system

Poor fuel quality (e.g., water contained in fuel)

Clogged fuel injectors or insufficient air intake

Troubleshooting Procedures

Observe exhaust smoke color.

Check lube oil volume, oil pressure and filter screen.

Inspect fuel quality.

Check the unit for other abnormalities such as burning odors or abnormal noises; notify maintenance personnel for repair if necessary.
