How to Choose Power Equipment Without Making Mistakes

Electricity is the lifeblood of the smooth progress of engineering projects. Diesel generator sets, as reliable backup or primary power sources, their selection directly affects the project cost, schedule and safety. Inappropriate selection may lead to insufficient power supply, frequent equipment failures and even project suspension. The following core points can help you effectively avoid risks during procurement.

9.11

1. Accurately calculate the required capacity to ensure adequate power supply

The common misconception is that the capacity is insufficient. The simple calculation formula is: divide the total power of all the equipment requiring power supply by 0.8 (power factor estimation), and then divide by 0.85 (redundancy safety factor), thereby obtaining the minimum required power of the generator set. Be sure to distinguish between “standby power” and “regular power”, and when choosing, the “regular power” for continuous operation should be the main basis. Mismatched power-rated generators cannot meet long-term stable loads and must be carefully checked against the nameplate parameters.

2. Strictly verify core components and certification qualifications

The performance of the generator set depends on the quality of core components. Engines should prioritize brands with a reliable reputation and ensure they are original factory new machines with a formal factory certificate of conformity. For the generator part, full-copper wire and brushless design motors have advantages in efficiency, stability and lifespan.

In addition, the national standard GB/T19001 quality management system certification is the basic entry threshold for manufacturers, and relevant model certificates and emission certificates must also be complete.

3. Fully consider installation and operation environment

Environmental factors have a significant impact on the performance of the generator set. In high-altitude areas, thin air will cause the engine power to decrease. Specialized models with enhanced cooling and intake systems must be selected. At the same time, the installation site of the generator set should be planned in advance to ensure good ventilation, qualified foundation bearing capacity, and sufficient maintenance space.

4. Clearly define service terms and response standards

Reliable after-sales service is the guarantee for long-term stable operation. Before procurement, specific terms such as fault response time, on-site service commitment, and spare parts supply cycle must be clearly defined. Suppliers with fault response times exceeding 4 hours should be carefully considered. In addition, the warranty period and scope of core components (such as engines) should also be inquired and confirmed.

In summary, selecting a diesel generator set is a systematic project that requires starting from the actual power demand, focusing on the quality of core components, combining the operating environment, and ultimately relying on a solid service agreement as a guarantee. Comprehensive consideration is the key to avoiding subsequent operational troubles and ensuring investment returns.
