Mobile Diesel Generator Set Safety Operating Procedures

In outdoor construction, mobile diesel generators are critical equipment for power supply. However, they carry potential hazards including fire, electric shock and mechanical injury. Only by following proper safety operating procedures can they become reliable “power partners”.

9.9

I. Before Startup: Conduct thorough inspections to build solid safety defenses

Site Check: Select an open, well-ventilated area away from flammable and explosive materials. Avoid low-lying waterlogged locations. Startup is strictly prohibited during thunderstorms.

Equipment Check: Verify normal levels of fuel, engine oil and coolant. Inspect cables for damage and plugs for looseness. Check that tire pressure is balanced and the earthing device is securely connected.

Personnel Preparation: Operators must hold valid certificates. Wear protective gear such as safety helmets and goggles. Operation under the influence of alcohol or fatigue is forbidden.

II. During Operation: Continuous monitoring to eliminate safety risks

Smooth Startup: Start the unit strictly in accordance with the operation manual. Run it at no load for 3–5 minutes for warm-up. Apply load gradually after the rotating speed and voltage stabilize to prevent instantaneous overload.

Real-time Monitoring: Keep a close watch on dashboard readings and pay attention to the operating noise and exhaust smoke color. Shut down the unit immediately for inspection if abnormal conditions occur, such as strange noises, oil leaks or smoke emission.

Safety Protection: Maintain a safe distance from the unit. Never touch high-temperature components like exhaust pipes and water tanks. Prevent clothing from being caught in rotating parts.

III. After Shutdown: Standard shutdown procedures and proper maintenance

Controlled Shutdown: Remove the load step by step first. Let the unit idle for 3–5 minutes, then cut off power and disconnect cables. Drain all cooling water in winter (not required if antifreeze is used) to avoid engine cracking from freezing.

Routine Maintenance: Clean the air filter regularly and replace engine oil and fuel filters to keep the equipment clean. If the unit will remain idle for a long time, perform a no-load test run once a month and check the battery charge.

Safety is no trivial matter. Standardized operation is the core of reliable power supply for outdoor construction. Let us keep these requirements in mind, so that mobile diesel generators can safely and stably support every engineering project.
