The safety precautions for using a generator are as follows:
I. Application Scenarios
When in use, the generator should be placed in a well-ventilated area outdoors or in the machine room, and must not be close to doors, Windows or ventilation openings to prevent carbon monoxide from entering the room.
2. Generators must not be used near flammable and explosive materials.
3. The generator should be placed in a dry area. If it needs to be installed and used outdoors, it must be covered with a canopy building to prevent contact accidents caused by moisture.
4. Do not use portable generators indoors, such as in garages, carports, basements and enclosed Spaces. In these situations, using portable generators, even if Windows and doors are opened or mechanical ventilation is carried out, cannot prevent the accumulation of carbon monoxide indoors. This may lead to carbon monoxide poisoning, cause fires, and even result in electric shock accidents.
Ii. Storage and Use of Fuel
Generator fuel should be stored in a dedicated warehouse, and the facilities in the warehouse must comply with the regulations of the fire department.
2. The type of fuel used should be consistent with the requirements stated in the generator’s user manual or label.
3. There should not be too much fuel left in the generator, especially for gasoline generator sets. If the generator has not been used for up to 30 days, gasoline stabilizer should be added to prevent gasoline from evaporating and causing accidents.
4. Before adding fuel, the generator should be turned off first. Wait for the generator to cool down before adding fuel to prevent the gasoline from gradually getting onto the hotter parts and catching fire, which could cause disasters.
Iii. Line Connection
The specifications of the outdoor line must be able to meet the requirements of the electrical load used.
2. When using extended wires, make sure that the insulation between them and the ground is good.
3. Do not directly plug the generator’s output line into the original power socket in the residence for power supply. This will cause feedback and may lead to electric shock accidents for users powered by the same transformer. The correct connection method is for an electrician to install the power conversion switch.
