In daily life, especially at gas stations, people often see large trucks waiting to refuel. It should be noted that all these large trucks are equipped with diesel engines and the fuel they usually use is diesel. In southern regions, 0 # diesel is more commonly seen at gas stations. In winter, there are also -5 #, -10 # and so on. In fact, diesel grades are generally classified as No. 10, No. 5, No. 0, No. -5, No. -10 and No. -20, and the prices of diesel of different grades also vary. The grade of diesel indicates its frost resistance. Generally, in winter, -10 or even -30 grade diesel needs to be added, while in summer, 0 grade is sufficient.
Many people believe that No. 0 diesel can still be used normally as long as the temperature is at 0℃. This is mainly due to a lack of understanding of the anti-freezing performance of diesel. In fact, there are mainly two indicators for measuring the anti-freezing performance of diesel, namely the cold filter point and the condensation point. The freezing point refers to the high temperature at which diesel loses its fluidity in a low-temperature environment, mainly affecting the transportation and storage of diesel. The cold filter point is the high temperature at which diesel passes through the engine’s fuel supply system and causes the filter screen to clog. It directly affects the engine’s fuel supply. According to the national diesel standards, the cold filter point of No. 0 diesel is no higher than 4℃ (the highest temperature at which diesel can pass through the filter screen), and its freezing point is no higher than 0℃ (the temperature at which diesel condenses). The freezing point of No. -10 diesel is no higher than -10℃, and its filter point is no higher than -5℃. No matter what grade of diesel it is, as the temperature keeps dropping, it first passes through the cold filter point and then the condensation point.
