The generator of Phase 1 has been in normal operation since its commissioning in 1984. The brushless excitation system has been running smoothly and the automatic excitation regulator has been frequently engaged and requires minimal maintenance.
The generator of Phase 2 has experienced multiple failures of the DC excitation system since its commissioning in 1994.
During the commissioning of both units, short circuits occurred at the rotor slip rings, which seriously affected the production operation. During normal operation, the slip rings and rectifier carbon brushes need to be frequently inspected and replaced, resulting in a large amount of maintenance work and high costs. The automatic excitation regulator of Phase 1 often shuts down due to its inability to operate stably for a long time.
With the accumulation of operating experience from Phase 2 and the strengthening of maintenance, normal operation can still be guaranteed.
Phase 3 adopted a microcomputer-controlled excitation regulation system.
This regulation system has been running stably and reliably since its commissioning, with excellent performance. Especially the fully localized human-machine interface provides convenience for on-site operation and maintenance personnel.
By comparing the structure, principle and operation of the excitation systems of these three phases of the generator, it can be seen that the brushless excitation system of Phase 1 operates reliably and has significantly less maintenance and inspection work compared to the DC excitation system of Phase 2. However, the excitation system of Phase 1 was more difficult to start and commission than Phase 2.
Phase 3 adopted a static excitation system, controlled by the HWLT-4 microcomputer excitation regulator. The excitation machine was eliminated, the main shaft length was shortened, and the manufacturing costs and civil engineering costs were reduced. Moreover, the microcomputer control is the trend of industrial development, and its production technology is gradually mature, making it the mainstream of future excitation system development.
