The reasons for the high oil consumption of diesel generator sets

Engine oil usually enters the combustion chamber through the gap between the piston rings and the ring grooves, as well as the gap between the valves and the guide tubes. The direct cause of its intrusion is that the first piston ring, near the top dead center, has a sharp decrease in its movement speed, which throws the lubricating oil adhering to it into the combustion chamber. Therefore, the fit clearance between the piston ring and the piston, the oil scraping volume and capacity of the piston ring, the pressure in the combustion chamber and the viscosity of the engine oil are all closely related to the consumption of engine oil.

The piston deviation caused by the bending of the connecting rod and the failure of the body shaping tolerance to meet the requirements (marked by the wear marks of the cylinder liner and piston at both ends along the axis of the piston pin hole, one side of the piston ring shore and the other side of the piston skirt) is also an important reason for the increase in oil consumption.

The adoption of twisted rings and combined oil rings has a significant effect on reducing oil consumption. Especially the combined oil ring is light in weight, has a three-piece structure without the function of pumping oil, is inherently flexible, and has good adaptability to the cylinder wall. The expansion ring makes the side of the oil ring closely adhere to the ring groove.

In terms of operating conditions, if the viscosity of the engine oil is too low, the engine speed and water temperature are too high, the deformation of the cylinder liner exceeds the limit, frequent starts and stops, excessive wear of engine parts, and the oil level is too high, all these will increase the consumption of engine oil.
