1. Power Ratings and Performance Classes
The output power of generator sets is categorized into prime power and standby power. Prime power permits unlimited operation of the unit within specified limits with certain overload capability. Standby power is restricted to emergency‑only application without overload capacity, and the annual operating hours shall generally not exceed 500 hours. In addition, generator performance classes range from G1 to G4; higher classes impose stricter requirements on voltage and frequency stability.
2. Electrical Performance Stability
Voltage and frequency regulation rates and fluctuation rates directly determine power supply quality. The steady‑state voltage regulation rate shall be maintained within ±1%, and the frequency fluctuation rate shall be ≤0.5%. Upon sudden load changes, the time required for voltage to restore stability serves as a key indicator for evaluating the unit’s dynamic response capability.
3. Environmental Adaptability
Unit performance is subject to environmental conditions. Thin air at high altitudes reduces engine output. Excessively low ambient temperature may impair starting performance. Water‑cooled generator sets shall be considered for poorly‑ventilated locations. Temperature, altitude and ventilation conditions at the installation site must be assessed during model selection.
4. Paralleling and Special Requirements
For large loads exceeding 1600 kW, parallel operation of multiple generator sets may represent a preferred solution. Furthermore, where special requirements such as environmental noise reduction, automatic transfer or engine‑room retrofitting are needed, the supplier’s engineering retrofitting capability shall also be taken into evaluation.
