Diesel Generator Set Selection

1. Power type selection

According to GB2820 and ISO8528, the power types of diesel generator sets mainly include continuous power (COP), main power (PRP), limited time operating power (LTP) and emergency standby power (ESP). Which power type to choose depends on the application requirements.

According to the different levels of the data center (uptime has four levels of T1, T2, T3, and T4; the national standard has three levels of A, B, and C), it has different requirements for the power type of the standby power generator set:

A, T1, T2, and B, C-level data centers can use backup power generator sets; the total power of the backup power generator sets should be greater than or equal to the total demand for backup power in the data center.

B, T3, T4, and A-level data centers need to use continuous power (COP) or primary power (PRP), and clearly stipulate that when primary power (PRP) is used, the total power must be amplified to continuous power (COP) ÷ 0.7 . For example: if the total demand of a T3 or T4 power station is 14000KW, if we choose a continuous power (COP) generator set, its total capacity needs to be greater than or equal to 14000KW. If we choose the primary power (PRP) generator set, its total capacity needs to be greater than or equal to 20000KW.

Once the application level of the data center is determined, the power type of the diesel generator set can be determined.

2. Determining the total power of the generator set

After the total capacity of the system load is met, when determining the total power of the diesel generator set, we must perform further calculations according to different loads and load configurations to meet the load requirements of the entire data center.

Data centers are generally equipped with IT equipment, UPS, air conditioners, chillers, etc. The total power of the diesel generator set is closely related to the UPS, the starting motor, the voltage drop and the frequency drop. Caterpillar has special selection software for UPS and three-phase motors: according to IT equipment capacity, UPS configuration mode, UPS technical parameters (charge rate, efficiency, one-step load rate, inverter type, etc.), motor start mode, motor The allowable voltage drop and frequency drop are used to determine the total power of the generator set that meets the needs of the power station.

The power type of the generator set and the total power of the generator set are determined, and we determine the number of generator sets according to the size of the machine room. Normally, when multiple generator sets are running in parallel, we use high-voltage generator sets. At this point, the project generator set selection is over: generator set power type, generator set power size, generator set voltage, and number of generator sets.
