Maintenance of Starting Batteries for Diesel Generator Sets
The electrolyte level shall always be kept 10–15 mm above the electrode plates. Inspect once per month and top up with distilled water (pure water) appropriately according to liquid level drop. Never add acid.
Recharge the battery off-board promptly if the terminal voltage is low, lights dim and cranking fails to start the engine.
Regularly check the unobstructed ventilation holes during operation or storage to avoid battery deformation or rupture.
Keep batteries away from heat sources and open flames; ensure adequate ventilation during charging and operation. Risk of explosion causing personal injury.
Charging Requirements
Shelf Life: Dry-charged batteries have a 12-month shelf life. Supplementary charging is required before use if the expiry date is exceeded.
Constant-Current Charging Method: Adopt a charging current of 0.1C₂₀ (C₂₀ = 20-hour rated capacity). After terminal voltage rises to 14.4 V, continue charging for 16 hours at a current of 0.5V20.
