To ensure module interchangeability, joint connections shall serve the functions of positioning and coupling. Their shape, dimensions and fits should comply with relevant standards as much as possible and facilitate processing and manufacturing. This enables the assembly of a wide range of products with differentiated functions and performance using a minimal number of modules.
For instance, the patented modular reducer series developed by Belgium’s Hansen features 45 pairs of basic gear sets (including 17 pairs of spiral bevel gears and 28 pairs of helical gears), which can be combined to achieve 2,320 different transmission ratios, while the entire reducer series only adopts 8 types of housing modules. Another example is the modular reducer series from Germany’s FLENDER. Its input shaft gears are designed with 5 center distances, each matching 5 transmission ratios, and output shaft gears have 3 center distances with 16 transmission ratios apiece. Such configurations allow the formation of 8 reducer series covering diverse power specifications and transmission ratios.
Module combination methods are not universally uniform either. Take the connecting module between power modules and speed change modules as an example. Some foreign gear reduction motor manufacturers, such as Switzerland’s BBC, design and machine the rear end face of their speed change modules in accordance with the mounting dimensions of standard vertical motors. By this design, externally sourced power modules can be directly mounted onto speed change modules, eliminating the need for independent connecting modules. This delivers an optimal outcome of cost efficiency and compact structural layout
