The main reasons for the reduction of the insulation of the generator rotor

The main reasons for the reduction of the insulation of the generator rotor

1.1 The rotor’s insulation resistance drops below the allowable value due to moisture absorption. This can occur if the generator is shut down for a long period, or if the environment is humid for other reasons.

3.6

1.1 The rotor’s insulation deteriorates due to prolonged use or overheating during operation caused by various factors, resulting in aging and deterioration of the coil insulation materials.

1.2 Carbon brush powder or oil accumulates under the slip ring, causing damage to the insulation of the rotor’s lead wires.

1.3 The cooling system of the generator is not properly sealed, or oil leaks from the bearing, causing dust, oil stains, or carbon powder to accumulate at the ends of the rotor coil, resulting in a decrease in insulation performance. This is significantly affected by the centrifugal force of the rotor.

1.4 Due to the influence of ventilation and thermal expansion during operation, the protective layer of the slot lining at the rotor slot mouth ages, breaks, or even falls off. This causes the mica in the slot lining at the slot mouth to gradually peel off, be blown away by the wind, and be affected by the accumulation of dust at the slot mouth, among other factors.

1.6 The insulation in the rotor’s slots breaks, resulting in the rotor’s insulation resistance being too low or experiencing metallic grounding.
